Whenever you break or flip you are singing in falsetto. It doesn't matter what notes you are singing. For example, you can bring falsetto down into the chest voice range.

More importantly is to do them correctly as demonstrated. If you do, even one - two times a day will be enough to experience success. But if it's wrong, 5 times a day will only reinforce the bad habits. Do them right and 2-3 times a day will be great!

Have you been to an ENT and had them check your nasal passages. Sometimes there are things they can do to help. Once those things are taken care of, if it is still a problem, I recommend doing exercises that will lower the larynx. Yes...for sure. It will help. But it will depend on whether you do the exercises correctly as demonstrated. Do them wrong and they won't help. Do them right and you will make progress quickly. The part that takes longer is applying it to your songs. But it's totally doable.

For men the last chest voice note is Eb4. E,F,F#, G and Ab4 are a blend of chest and head voice. A4 and higher are head voice.

They are amazing aren't they. And they do all that great stuff and we don't even know how about them...until now!

In my experience, we get into trouble when we are chasing sound. Instead, I teach students how to get the very best their unique voices are capable of producing. The exercises are designed to get their vocal cords to work in an optimal fashion and the larynx to stay down so the vocal cords are free and unencumbered. When all these are functioning optimally, the resonance will also be optimal. Then their unique sound is natural and authentic. And they can focus on singing and performing and sharing their heart and soul.

@@PowerToSing Yeah, that's a great line... but it's not what most guys singing in cover bands want or need, LOL! They, practically speaking, are really looking ot be impressionists or impersonators... To draw a parallel... guys spend untold time, energy and money trying to get the guitar sounds of Hendrix, SRV, EVH, etc. Folks want to make the sounds that drew them into music in the first place... and the whole music instruction industry blows it off with that "your own best unique sound" thing. Now... if your goal was to be a new act, looking for your own sound... as was the 60's, 70's, 80's etc. than maybe it would make sense. There was a time when rock was young and folks were looking to be the next new sound. These days it's become somewhat of game of folks wanting to do the "classics"... as a lot, we've become traditionalists... the 60's mantra of "do your own thing man"... died somewhere along the way... because there's now a huge back catalog of hits... that most likely won't be equalled for a number or reasons. As the joke goes... Q: "What's this generation's Led Zeppelin?" A : "Led Zeppelin"... LOL! So whether we "get into trouble" or not... people want what they want. They want the sounds they've heard their whole life and consider the standard sounds of their favorite genres. To not acknowledge that, and address it is just well... no flame intended... but BS, a fail, of the instriuctional industry... probably because... they don't really know the answer. Not trying to be mean, just trying to put reality out there clearly.

@@PowerToSing Nice line to deflect the issue, sounds "authentic" or whatever. But not what foks really want. And the whole instruction industry blows it off like this. Probably because the really don't know the answer. No flame intended, just reality as seen from here. I'm your age and been fussing with music since I was 12, so I think I'm on firm ground saying this.

@@flmason There's no question students want it. The only thing I can do is to explain that with every sound you try to create, unwanted muscular tension is added to the vocal machinery that produces the sound. Which makes it harder not easier to sing well. I am not an expert in mimicking or imitating singers. But I am going to guess that someone can be tremendously successful if they have the same physical build and look, practice the mannerisms, are able to musically reproduce their sound through excellent musicianship and command the stage the way the original did (does). If they can do that, (which I can't influence that much) and then I can help them sing their very best (which I can influence), they have an excellent chance to get plenty of gigs. I have a student who has a very successful career covering an artist (deceased). Our work together has been helping him sing his very best...which also enables him to get through a long performance singing very challenging songs. This is a very interesting conversation. Thank you @flmason. I appreciate your insights. I welcome you or anyone else who has more thoughts on this great topic.

For me, if I alternate the pitches, say starting with middle C4 to D4 back to C4 ...back and forth...slowly at first and gradually speeding up until you can no longer easily hear the two alternating pitches distinctly and they begin sounding like vibrato, the dominate pitch I hear in my vibrato is C4. This is what I teach my students also.

@@PowerToSing As long as the exercise works I think it's fine. I tried to hear the dominating note by slowing down on your video and to me it sounded like you stopped singing the higher note but maybe that's just me or because you made the intonation shorter. I play the violin so on the violin I'm pretty sure you only go down on the vibrato since I very often choose positions of my fingers that can only go down due to my nails. One of my old teachers disagreed though.
